Blogiversary and Smalltownversary Celebrations

I love celebrating anniversaries, of any kind (four years on, my André and I unashamedly still celebrate monthiversaries!), so it’s only fitting that I should celebrate my blogiversary (today! yay!) and our upcoming one-year smalltownversary (28 January) here on the blog.

If you had told me, a year and a half ago, that I would be spending my days, writing and crafting, in a klein dorpie in the Karoo, I would’ve smiled wistfully, and said, “I wish!”. All my life I lived, worked in, and travelled to big cities around the world. When I was younger, just setting out on my travels to the USA and the UK, I had a dream in my heart to travel to all the undiscovered little towns in the world. Life had different plans for me when I stepped off that plane at Newark airport, and, two years later, Heathrow airport, and I spent the next five years living, working, and making lifelong friends in New York and London. It would be nearly ten years before I revisited that small town dream again, and here we are, celebrating almost 365 days of small town living!

I started this blog exactly a year ago, today, to document our journey from the city to the Karoo. I reread a few of my first blog posts before I started writing this post, and it’s been such a treat reflecting on our physical, and personal journey from then until now. Here is a recap of some of my first posts, written before, and shortly after we arrived in the Karoo:

  1. Leap of Faith
  2. This is Unicorn Country
  3. Toto, We’re Not in Kansas Anymore

It’s been so wonderful having this platform through which to share our small town adventures. A BIG thank you to you for following along!

Happy blogiversary, Half Girl Half Unicorn, and happy smalltownversary to us!

Here’s to many more years of unicorn, and small town adventures!
