Our mountain home came with a number of perks which we have been taking full advantage of over the past month:
- Our backyard looks straight into the beautiful Boschberg mountain face.
- Our neighbours to the right of us are horses.
- Our neighbour to the left of us is a beautiful, big avocado tree.
What do any of these things have to do with this month’s creamy chocolatey goodness of a smoothie recipe? I’ll let you in on the secret…bachelor number 3 gives it its beautiful creamy texture.
I’ve been trying reeeally hard to cut down on sugar, which has been proving BAIE difficult with Easter coming up (chocolate. bunnies. everywhere!) but come May, I will be cutting sugar out of my diet indefinitely, and this smoothie recipe will become my go-to chocolate fix. Not only is it creamy (double-thick-milkshake-creamy, belowe!), but it’s also packed with super healthy goodness disguised as:
This bad boy contains nearly 20 vitamins and minerals in every serving and is loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. It’s super versatile due to it’s creamy texture and neutral taste and can be used in a variety of savoury and sweet treats alike. Yay for avo!
Cocoa makes other so-called super-fruits pale in comparison and, after water, is considered the healthiest known substance you can put into your body, according to Medicine Hunter. You go, Glen Cocoa! #youcansipwithus
Small but powerful, these itty bitty fruits are high in fibre, contain a wide range of micronutrients, and are renowned for their anti-inflammatory chemicals.
Chia seeds are high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which magically slows down carbohydrate digestion and stabilises blood sugar. These teeny tiny seeds are a very good source of calcium, iron and zinc, and contain a killer blend of protein, fat and fibre – the perfect energy booster.
Too many health benefits to mention! From healing wounds and burns, to increasing athletic performance, to preventing cancer and heart disease honey is, quite simply, the sweetest thing. Even King Solomon said, “My son, eat thou honey, for it is THE BOMB.” Okay so those weren’t his exact words, but the sentiment’s the same.
In addition to giving this smoothie a pleasant, nutty flavour, this ingredient contributes a healthy dose of vitamin E, and it’s a great substitute for those intolerant or allergic to milk.
So much of yummy, healthy goodness. Now this is a BIG, extremely filling serving so as always, share the creamy chocolatey love! x
