When your landlady hands you lemons, you make lemonade – or lemon cheesecake smoothies!
We were gifted with a BIG bag of lemons on Friday (thank you, Maretha!) and I spent the better part of Sunday coming up with delicious lemon concoctions, including this delightful, creamy, guilt free smoothie (and I’ve made one for breakfast every day since – it’s that delicious!).
The great thing about this smoothie is that it contains NO added sugar. Niks. Not even honey, which fits in perfectly with my new (refined) sugar free lifestyle (18 days and counting!) . The sweetness comes from ripe (not overripe) bananas and coconut milk. I swapped out my usual fat free yoghurt for Greek yoghurt which, along with the lemon, gives this smoothie a creamy, sweet, tart taste.
I used both lemon zest and lemon juice in this smoothie. Now we all know that lemons are a great source of vitamin C. What you might not know is that lemon juice is similar to the digestive juices in your stomach. It helps food move through your body smoothly, and processes the good stuff slowly, which helps with indigestion while flushing out toxins, which in turn helps detox your body and skin. Maaagical.
This is, hands down, one of the most delicious smoothies I’ve ever tasted. It’s super addictive and should come with a warning label!
