Thirsty Thursday · Triple Berry Age-Fighting Smoothie

This month’s Unicorn Juice™ recipe is super easy to make, contains a generous dose of anti-inflammatory and age-fighting superpowers, and the three-berry mix gives it a rich, red colour – perfect for the month of love! I was inspired to make this smoothie, after finding the most divine blueberries in Graaff-Reinet, on our return from Valley of Desolation. Allow me to introduce you to this month’s ingredients:

Blueberries are small, but BAIE powerful and contain a wide range of micronutrients, including vitamin C and K. These itty bitty fruits are also high in fibre, and renowned for their anti-inflammatory chemicals.

Strawberries are loaded with anti-inflammatory, and heart-protecting phenols, and they’re extremely high in vitamin C. Did you know, that smaller to medium sized strawberries generally have a lot more flavour than their larger counterparts? I didn’t!

Goji berries, an antioxidant powerhouse, is renowned for slowing the aging process, boosting brain cell counts, and protecting the body against desease. You had me at ‘slowing the aging process’ – give me ALL the goji berries forever!

Chia seeds are a good source of iron, calcium, and zinc, and contain a killer blend of protein, carbs, fat, and fiber, making it the perfect energy booster. It’s also high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, which slows carbohydrate digestion, and stabilizes blood sugar.

So although this five-ingredient recipe might seem quite simple, it sure packs a punch!

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.

If you can find coconut and rice milk (I get mine from Woolworths) then you can use coconut water as a substitute.
